Local Employment and Unemployment

Metropolitan Pittsburgh’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased from 4.5 percent in September 2019 to 8.2 percent in September 2020. During that period, the number of people in the labor force decreased by 39,000 while the number of unemployed increased by 41,200.

Within the region, Butler County held the lowest unemployment rate at 6.7 percent, while Fayette County held the highest rate at 10.7 percent.
