Local Employment and Unemployment
Metropolitan Pittsburgh’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased from 4.8 percent in December 2019 to 6.8 percent in December 2020. During that period, the number of people in the labor force decreased by 58,600 while the number of unemployed increased by 19,900.
Within the region, Butler County held the lowest unemployment rate at 5.9 percent, while Fayette County held the highest rate at 8.6 percent.
