Local Employment and Unemployment

Metropolitan Pittsburgh’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased from 4.1 percent in May 2019 to 13.7 percent in May 2020. During that period, the number of people in the labor force decreased by 22,500 while the number of unemployed increased by 116,700.

Within the region, Butler County held the lowest unemployment rate at 12 percent, while Fayette County held the highest rate at 16.7 percent.
