Q: What’s the most interesting thing about your job?
A: Within a single day, I can spend time with dinosaur experts looking at fossils, review plans with talented exhibit designers, watch an energetic educator engage a group of kids in our galleries, meet with community partners, and work on a budget. My job activates almost all of my passions.
Q: What’s the best advice anybody ever gave you?
A: Move at the speed of trust.
Q: How do you start the day?
A: With a run. In addition to helping me wake up and visualize the day, right now it is helping me get to know our new city.
Q: What three attributes do you value most in a person?
A: Kindness towards others, curiosity about the world and openness to change!
Q: If you could have dinner with one person, living or dead, who would it be?
A: My sister. COVID-19 has kept us physically distant for 18 months.
Q: What do you do for fun?
A: Our 6-year-old daughter and 8-month-old puppy are the resident fun experts. Whatever they do!
Q: What would you change about Pittsburgh?
A: I can recycle very little of what I use, and green waste goes into the garbage.
Q: People would be surprised to know that… ?
A: I’ve worn hearing aids since I was 4.
Q: If you won the lottery, you would… ?
A: Endow staff positions and galleries at all the natural history museums where I’ve worked.
Q: What is your greatest regret?
A: Not taking a gap year when I was younger.
Q: What would your epitaph say?
A: She couldn’t hear well, but she was a great listener.
Q: If you could come back as anything, what or who would it be?
A: A dawn redwood.
