Wings & Wildlife Art Show Supports the National Aviary
The National Aviary’s 4th annual Wings & Wildlife Art Show began with an upscale Soiree and Benefit Auction on November 2, 2018. More than 40 talented artists and makers filled the Aviary with a wide variety of art, all inspired by wildlife and conservation.
The show featured participants of the National Aviary Maker Challenge, an 18-month initiative in which local makers create original pieces inspired by National Aviary birds. Guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres, an open bar, and live music as they browsed the artwork and bid on an array of silent auction prizes before gathering for an exciting live auction, emceed by WTAE’s Michelle Wright. Wright auctioned off seven marvelous prizes including tickets to Hamilton, an in-home chef dinner by Josef Karst of Atria’s, and one-of-a-kind glass art made from the National Aviary’s Tropical Rainforest ceiling, just to name a few. The evening’s proceeds directly benefit the National Aviary’s avian medicine, education, and conservation programs.
The Art Show continued into the weekend with a two day Public Marketplace. National Aviary guests shopped for handmade gifts while meeting birds from around the world. Though the Art Show has concluded, National Aviary guests will continue to have the opportunity to shop for local art and handmade items in the Aviary’s gift shop which will feature pieces from the National Aviary Maker Challenge through the end of the year.
