“Galactic Get Down” Revels in Museum’s Vision of the Future
On Friday, June 15, the Mattress Factory museum of contemporary art welcomed a sold-out crowd of over 1,300 people to its annual Urban Garden Party. This year’s theme, Galactic Get Down, took inspiration from the museum’s vision for 2058, 40 years in the future.
Guests remembered the Mattress Factory’s founding director, Barbara Luderowski, by wearing pins of her image. Mayor Bill Peduto made a surprise appearance to honor Barbara Luderowski with a moment, not of silence, but of shouting.
Party goers enjoyed food by over 30 of the city’s best restaurants and bars and drinks provided by Pennsylvania Libations, Big Spring Spirits and Penn Brewery. Mars Jackson, Pittsburgh hip hop artist, got the party started, and guests danced the night away to future funk sounds by Water Seed. The event raised over $275,000 in crucial operating funds for the Mattress Factory.
