Year-Over-Year Job Growth
The Pittsburgh region lost about 175,800 jobs between May 2019 and May 2020, a 14.6 percent decrease over the year. This fell below the benchmark average of 13.8 percent decline for this period.
According to the preliminary numbers, in the 12-month period, only the financial activities added jobs–an increase of .4 percent year-over-year.
All other sectors shed jobs during this period. The leisure and hospitality has been hit the hardest–losing 47.7 percent of jobs in the industry from May 2019.
