While robbery rates fluctuate in a number of cities and regions, the local rates are relatively flat and low in both the region and the City of Pittsburgh. The Pittsburgh MSA’s robbery rate per 100,000 population in 2018 was 58.8, an decrease of 18 percent from 2017’s robbery rate of 71.7 per 100,000 population and the third-​smallest rate of all benchmark regions. The City of Pittsburgh’s robbery rate per 100,000 population in 2018 was 230.0, an decrease of 12.25 percent from 2017’s robbery rate of 262.1 per 100,000 population.
