Housing Segregation Index

Residential segregation is a measure of integration across local communities. Higher degrees of residential segregation result from the isolation of minority groups. Many measures of segregation are used. Here, Duncan’s Delta is reported for African American segregation in benchmark regions. Duncan’s Delta estimates the proportion of a group’s population that would have to move to achieve a uniform density across a region.

For the Pittsburgh region, over 87% of African Americans would have to move to achieve uniform integration.
