Adult Physical Activity Rates
Adults in the Pittsburgh region are about as physically active as their peers in Pittsburgh TODAY’s benchmark regions, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control’s Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS).
In 2017, about 20.7 percent of adults in the Pittsburgh region reported that exercised a sufficient amount in the past month, as defined by the BRFSS. Suffient exercise is defined as at least 150 minutes of aerobic exercise and two hours of muscle strengthening workouts each week. That percentage is slightly below the benchmark average of 21.3 percent.
Outdoor recreation mecca, Denver, led the way with 26.5 percent of adults getting sufficient exercise.
