Poverty rates in the Pittsburgh Metropolitan Statistical Area are below average when compared to the benchmark regions.

According to the latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau, 10.8 percent of Pittsburgh residents were below the poverty level in 2018, an decrease of .2 percent compared to 2017 and below the benchmark average of 11.2 percent.

The share of children under the age of 18 in poverty in the Pittsburgh region was 13.6 percent in 2018, a decrease of 1.1 percent compared to 2017 and below the benchmark average of 15.3 percent.
