Private Giving to the Arts per Capita
A key measure of arts vitality is charitable giving to the arts. According to The National Center for Charitable Statistics at the Urban Institute, the Pittsburgh MSA ranks below the benchmark average when it comes to contributions from private giving and government grants to arts, cultural and humanities organizations.
The giving figures show Pittsburgh at $61 per capita — eleventh place among the 15 benchmark regions. The figure includes all private contributions, including corporations, foundations and individuals as well as government grants. The information is based on IRS 990 forms from arts groups.
