Dan graduated from Penn State with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and worked for several years as a CPA before earning a degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. He was elected to Pittsburgh City Council in 1991 and re-elected in 1995. In 1999, he was elected Allegheny County Controller, spending four years as a watchdog against wasteful spending and fraud. In 2003, he was elected County Executive and in 2007 was overwhelmingly re-elected. He currently works for Highmark.
