The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) is one of the leading academic medical institutions in the nation whose reach extends across 29 Pennsylvania counties to nations in Europe and the Middle East. West Penn Allegheny Health System is among Pennsylvania’s leading health care providers and one of the region’s largest employers with 13,000 physicians, nurses and other staff. The health system’s two tertiary and four community hospitals admit more than 80,000 patients each year and its emergency rooms log more than 173,000 visits.
